Jean Segura Hangs Up His Gloves After a Distinguished MLB Career

Experienced Dominican infielder Jean Segura has announced his retirement from professional baseball, ending a twelve-season career in Major League Baseball.

Segura, remembered for his time with several teams, including the Phillies, leaves a legacy marked by his versatility and key moments on the diamond.

Acquired by the Phillies before the trade deadline in 2019, coming from the Seattle Mariners, Segura became an important piece of the team that reached the World Series in 2022.

During his time in Philadelphia, Segura reached the highest WAR of his career, demonstrating his value on the field despite not matching the level shown in his star years.

One of his most memorable moments was in the 2022 National League Division Series against the Atlanta Braves, where his performance was crucial.

After his outstanding season, the Phillies decided not to exercise their option, which led Segura to the Miami Marlins. Subsequently, he was traded to the Cleveland Guardians, who released him.

His last professional appearance was with a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles in August 2024, without playing games with the team before being released in September.
