Jean Montero: Dominican Legend in Liga Endesa, Third Historic Young MVP

Valencia, Spain – Dominican basketball continues to achieve success in Europe. Jean Montero, point guard for Valencia Basket, has been recognized as the Best Young Player of the Liga Endesa in the 2024-25 season.

This award marks a milestone, as Montero becomes the first player in history to obtain this award for the third consecutive season.

Young Domain and Consolidation

At 21 years old, Montero adds this new recognition to an outstanding season, leading the individual statistics and being fundamental in the Valencian team. The award, granted by Azulmarino, was based on a vote where he obtained an impressive 84.6% of the maximum possible score, thanks to the vote of coaches, players, media and fans.

In his first season with Valencia Basket, the player from Santo Domingo has shown a notable evolution compared to his previous stages at Real Betis and MoraBanc Andorra. In 31 games played, he established himself among the best in the league in valuation (2nd with 18.6), assists (4th with 4.9), scoring (5th with 15.4) and Plus/Minus balance (5th with +7.3).

One of the brightest moments of his campaign was on Matchday 23, where he delivered a memorable performance against Joventut de Badalona.

32 points, 8 assists and a performance index rating of 44, the best individual mark for a Valencia player in the last 23 years.

Montero dominated the voting in all categories: players (47 points), coaches (44), media (42.7) and popular vote (39), surpassing Mario Saint-Supery and his teammate Sergio de Larrea.

With this achievement, Jean Montero surpasses in the record to figures like Luka Doncic and Carlos Alocén, who had won the award on two occasions. His name already appears alongside other great talents of Spanish basketball, such as Guillem Vives, Juancho Hernangómez, Usman Garuba and Joel Parra.
