Japan Imposes its Dominance over the Dominican Republic in the Nations League

OTTAWA, CANADA – Japan’s national team, currently ranked fifth in the world, achieved a resounding victory by defeating the Dominican Republic with a score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-21 and 25-9). This triumph secures their undefeated status with a record of 4-0 in the first round of the Nations League, corresponding to Group 1, held in Ottawa.

The Dominican team concludes this phase with two victories and two defeats. Now, they are preparing for the second round which will take place in Istanbul, Turkey, starting Wednesday, June 18th.

Dominican Republic’s first match in Turkey will be against the hosts on Wednesday the 18th at 7:30 pm.

Mayu Ishikawa led the Japanese attack with 20 points, followed by Yoshina Sato with 19 and Haruyo Shimamura with nine.

For the Dominican side, Gaila González stood out with 14 points, Jineirys Martínez contributed seven, and Brayelin Martínez added six.

Japan’s game was characterized by a solid defense that made it difficult for their rivals to attack. In addition, their offense showed great coordination, with an effective distribution of the ball by the setter and an excellent performance by the libero, supported by her teammates.

The first two sets were contested, but Japan managed to impose their game, especially in the second, with an outstanding offense that allowed them to take control of the scoreboard. Dominican Republic led at times, but Japan tied at 20 and secured the advantage.

In the third set, Japan started with an impeccable defense, scoring a 12-3. The Dominicans had problems in reception and suffered blocks.

Coach Marcos Kweik made changes to the team, including players from the bench.
