Gianni Infantino Congratulates Salcedo FC on Their Historic Championship

Santo Domingo – FIFA President Gianni Infantino extended his official congratulations to Salcedo FC for their victory in the Dominican Republic Football League (LDF). This achievement marks the team’s first season in the professional circuit. The congratulations were conveyed through a letter addressed to the Dominican Football Federation (Fedofutbol). Infantino highlighted the feat of Salcedo FC, which surpassed Cibao FC, champion of the last five seasons of the league.

The top leader of world football recognized the work of the president of Fedofútbol, José Deschamps, highlighting “his continuous support, work and dedication to the development of football in the Dominican Republic”.

The Salcedo FC championship has been one of the biggest surprises in Dominican football, given that the club was crowned champion in its debut season in the LDF. The team’s next challenge will be the 2026 Concacaf Caribbean Cup, a regional tournament that will bring together important Caribbean clubs and will begin in August. Salcedo FC will compete in Group B alongside Cibao FC, as well as the Jamaican teams Cavalier FC and Portmore United FC, and the Caribbean Shield champion. FIFA has increased its support for Dominican football in recent years, especially with the development of the High Performance Center (CAR), partially inaugurated last February through the FIFA Forward program. The first phase of the project had an investment of $4.8 million and included two natural grass fields, accommodation areas for national teams, administrative offices, meeting rooms, and training spaces. The second stage of the installations will raise the total investment to about 10 million dollars and is expected to be completed in 2027. The men’s and women’s national teams have used the CAR as part of their preparation for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, whose football competitions will be held between July 29 and August 8.
