Santo Domingo – The Quinto Centenario Racecourse was the setting for the first edition of the “Gran Copa Dr. Ramón Tallaj”, an event that brought together imported specimens aged three years and older. The main objective of this initiative is to boost the development of equestrianism in the Dominican Republic. Dr. Tallaj, a renowned Dominican doctor and equestrian residing in the United States, seeks to promote the breeding of high-quality native specimens.
The event featured a top prize of RD$500,000.00 and an entry fee of RD$25,000.00 for each participating horse. The competition, of G3 grade, was held over a distance of 1,800 meters. This cup is part of Dr. Tallaj’s plan to promote and develop equestrianism in the country. Dr. Tallaj owns Diamond Farm, a racehorse farm in Kentucky (USA), and RT Racing Stable, a stable of horses. Dr. Tallaj has been recognized in the Dominican Republic and the United States for his philanthropic work, through the foundation that bears his name and his actions for the benefit of the health of low-income communities. He was Undersecretary of Health in the country for three periods and medical director of the Social Security and Welfare Institute of the Dominican Republic, where he contributed to the improvement of the health administration regulation law.We try to contribute in some way to the incentive of the development of equestrianism in the country, impregnating mares with stallions from our farm, so that those fruits are born in the Dominican Republic, with bloodlines of superior quality, and thus, contribute to the development of the breeding of native specimens.
