SANTO DOMINGO – Los Gigantes del Cibao achieved a resounding 13-9 victory over the Leones del Escogido this Sunday in the continuation of the 2025-26 LIDOM autumn-winter baseball tournament, dedicated to Juan Marichal and in option for the Copa Banreservas. Julio Carreras was the key figure by hitting a grand slam that drove an explosive six-run sixth inning. This triumph represents the second consecutive victory for the Giants, who are now in third place in the standings with a 22-26 record, just two games away from the end of the regular season. Already classified, the Águilas Cibaeñas (32-16) and the Toros del Este (26-22) lead the standings. Carreras’ grand slam, the eighth bases-loaded homer of the season in the LIDOM, came after a pitch from Henry Sosa. The ball, after being hit, traveled an estimated distance of 398 feet through left field, marking a crucial moment in the game. This was the first grand slam by a Giants player since Kelvin Gutiérrez achieved it on October 27 against the Estrellas Orientales, in San Francisco de Macorís. Regarding the performance on the mound, Steven Moyer, Giants’ opener, worked for 3.2 innings, allowing six hits and two earned runs. Tayron Guerrero took the victory, while Diógenes Almengó took the loss. For the Lions, Ángel Sánchez opened the game, pitching two innings and allowing two earned runs. The particular series between both teams favored the Leones del Escogido with a 6-4 advantage, extending their historical dominance over the Gigantes to 165-136.
