Escogido Leaves Licey in the Field with Erik González’s Golden Hit

SANTO DOMINGO – A hit by Erik González in the ninth inning gave the Leones del Escogido a 5-4 victory over the Tigres del Licey this Wednesday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium. The game, a classic between eternal rivals, arrived tied in the ninth inning. Adonis Medina went up to the mound for Licey, but Gio Urshela led off with a single. An error in the pitcher’s throw allowed Urshela to advance to second. Carlos Jiménez came in to run as a pinch runner and Jasson Domínguez received an intentional walk, setting the stage for González, who hit the decisive hit. The first hit for the Scarlet team came in the sixth chapter, after being down on the scoreboard throughout the game, until they managed to tie in the eighth inning. Jimmy Cordero (1-0) earned the win with one inning and two strikeouts. Medina (1-1) took the loss, allowing the winning run. With this result, the Escogido improves its record to 10-12, while the Tigres fall to 9-12.

The Game

The Tigres took the lead early with a two-run double by Cristhian Adames in the first inning against Kenny Hernández, putting the score at 2-0. Mel Rojas Jr. hit a solo home run in the sixth, extending the lead to 3-0 for Licey, who added another run in the eighth. The Lions responded in the seventh with walks to Jorge Mateo and Yamaico Navarro. A single by Sócrates Brito drove in the first run, and a hit by Urshela to center field brought in the second, bringing the home team closer 3-2. In the eighth, the long-haired team tied the game against Ryan Watson. González received a walk, Mateo singled, and Navarro drove in the tying run with a hit to right field.
