Gigantes del Cibao Stops Toros: First Victory in Baseball Round Robin

LA ROMANA – In an encounter full of emotions, the Gigantes del Cibao defeated the Toros del Este with a final score of 4-1, in the continuation of the Round Robin of the 2025-26 autumn-winter baseball tournament, dedicated to Juan Marichal. Despite offensive efforts from Bryan De La Cruz and Eloy Jiménez, the Toros were unable to finalize their game. With this result, the Toros del Este now have a record of 7-3, which keeps them at the top of the standings, tied with the Leones del Escogido and with a two-game lead over their closest competitor.

Eloy Jiménez continues to demonstrate his consistency in batting, connecting hits in nine of the ten games played in this stage. In addition, he leads the Round Robin with six doubles. Bryan De La Cruz has gotten on base in every game he has participated in, with hits in eight of the nine games.

The Game

The Giants took the lead in the first inning, and extended their lead in the third inning. The Bulls responded in the bottom of the third inning with a run driven in by Bryan De La Cruz, leaving the score 2-1. The Giants added another run in the fifth inning and sealed the score in the ninth. Bryan Rodríguez (1-0) earned the win in relief, while Jimmy Cordero earned the save. Jaime Barría (0-1) took the loss after pitching 4.1 innings, allowing three runs.

Individual Performances

For the Giants, Gustavo Núñez stood out with an RBI and a run scored. Ismael Munguía went 1-2 with two walks and two runs scored, José Siri drove in a run and Deyvison De los Santos produced a run. Regarding the Toros, Bryan De La Cruz went 2-for-4, including a triple and an RBI; Eloy Jiménez went 3-for-4 with two doubles, and Rudy Martin Jr. scored the team’s only run. The Toros’ next game will be this Friday, where they will receive the Águilas Cibaeñas at the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium at 7:30 PM, with Enny Romero as the starting pitcher.
