Gigantes del Cibao Bolster Their Roster with Francisco Mejía in the Re-Entry Draft

SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORÍS – The Gigantes del Cibao have announced the incorporation of catcher Francisco Mejía in the Re-entry Draft of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). This choice adds to their team a player with great experience and consistency in winter baseball.

Mejía, from the Tigres del Licey, is a 30-year-old catcher with eight seasons in the LIDOM. His career includes five seasons with the Estrellas Orientales and three with the Tigres, the team he played for in the most recent regular season.

The catcher was originally selected by the Estrellas Orientales in the first round of the 2016 Rookie Draft, marking the beginning of a solid career in Dominican baseball.

In the last regular series, Francisco Mejía demonstrated his offensive ability with a batting average of .310, a home run, 11 RBIs, and 10 doubles. His performance positioned him as one of the best catchers in the tournament, both for his production with the bat and for his defense.

Between the 2016 and 2025 seasons, Mejía has participated in 127 games in the LIDOM, with a .246 average, three home runs, 53 RBIs, 19 doubles, and an OBP of .292. These numbers consolidate him as a reliable catcher in all aspects of the game.

With this selection, the Gigantes del Cibao seek to strengthen their team for the upcoming championship challenges, relying on Mejía’s experience and leadership in the catcher position.

The northeastern team will make five additional selections during the draft, following league regulations.
