Gigantes del Cibao rout Toros with 8-run rally and win series

San Francisco de Macorís – Los Gigantes del Cibao unleashed a demolishing offensive in the eighth inning, scoring eight crucial runs to secure the 8-1 victory over the Toros del Este in the first game of the doubleheader of the Dominican Baseball League (LIDOM), dedicated to Juan Marichal and in option for the Banreservas Cup. The key to the Giants’ triumph was the doubles produced by Gary Sánchez, Nomar Mazara, and Marco Hernández, which broke the tie and defined the course of the match. With this result, the Giants improved their record to 18-25, strengthening their home performance with a 12-10 record. In addition, they snapped the Bulls’ five-game winning streak and secured the head-to-head series against the Romanenses with a 6-2 lead. Right-handed pitcher Justin Courtney (2-2) earned the victory, following an outstanding performance of 7.1 innings, allowing only two hits and one earned run, with one walk and five strikeouts. He faced a total of 24 batters. The loss went to Steven Moyer (2-3), who worked five innings, allowing two hits and one earned run, with four strikeouts and one home run.

Offensive Performance

For the Toros del Este, Eloy Jiménez went 2-for-3, while Yairo Muñoz hit a home run, scored a run and drove in another, finishing 1-for-3. Regarding the Gigantes del Cibao, Gary Sánchez stood out with a double and two RBIs, finishing 1-1. Pablo Reyes went 1-4, and Luis García Jr. also contributed with a run and two RBIs, going 1-4.
