Flamengo Crowned Brazilian Champion After an Epic Season
Rio de Janeiro – Flamengo continues its dream season by securing the Campeonato Brasileiro title this Wednesday, after defeating Ceará 1-0 at the iconic Maracanã stadium. This championship adds to the recent conquest of the Copa Libertadores, achieved just four days ago, consolidating the carioca club as the first Brazilian team to achieve such a feat.
The goal that sealed the victory was the work of Samuel Lino, who took advantage of a precise assist from the Colombian Jorge Carrascal. The celebration was experienced before a crowd of 73,244 fans, the largest attendance recorded this year in the emblematic stadium.
With this triumph, Flamengo accumulates 78 points, securing an insurmountable lead over Palmeiras, which has 73 points, despite its victory against Atlético Mineiro (0-3). This title represents the ninth League crown in the club’s history.
A Historic Season for Mengão
The team led by Filipe Luis has starred in a memorable season in 2025, obtaining four titles: Libertadores, League, Campeonato Carioca and Supercopa do Brasil. In addition, the team equals the feat achieved in 2019 and the one achieved by Santos in 1962-63 with Pelé, by winning Libertadores and League in the same year.
Despite the physical exhaustion after the Libertadores final, the coach chose to keep the starting eleven to secure the title and thus be able to travel in advance to Qatar, where Flamengo will play the Intercontinental Cup against Cruz Azul.
Dominance and Celebration at the Maracanã
Flamengo dominated the first half, although Ceará implemented a defensive strategy to seek a crucial point to avoid relegation. The home team insisted with long-distance shots, managing to break the tie at minute 36 with a powerful shot by Lino.
Overview of the Last Day
While Flamengo celebrates its championship, there are still pending challenges in the league:
- Fluminense (61), Bahia (60) and Botafogo (59) compete for the last direct spot to Libertadores 2026.
- Sport and Juventude are already relegated.
- Internacional (41) and Vitoria (42) must win and wait for other results to avoid relegation to Serie B.
