Fermín López extends his contract with Barcelona until 2031
Attacking midfielder Fermín López has secured his future at Barcelona by extending his contract for two additional seasons, which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2031. The official announcement was made this Friday by the Catalan institution.
This renewal reinforces Barcelona’s commitment to the player from El Campillo (Huelva), who had already extended his contract in October 2024 until 2029, with a release clause of 500 million euros. Fermín has established himself as a fundamental piece in the team’s scheme.
Since his debut with the first team in August 2023, under the direction of Xavi Hernández, the Andalusian footballer has participated in a total of 113 matches. During this time, he has demonstrated his worth by scoring 29 goals and providing 19 assists.
His outstanding performance with the Catalan team earned him his debut with the Spanish national team in June 2024, becoming a regular in the calls of coach Luis de la Fuente.
In the current season, Hansi Flick’s second in charge of the team, Fermín has achieved notable figures, surpassing ten goals and assists.
Despite Chelsea’s interest, who presented an attractive offer in August, the Huelva midfielder chose to continue his career at Barcelona.
Barcelona’s sporting direction has recognized the outstanding performance of the youth player with a contract improvement, rewarding the dedication of a footballer whose path to the elite was not easy.
Fermín began to stand out at Recreativo de Huelva before joining Betis, a club he left at the age of fifteen to join La Masia.
His beginnings in the lower categories of Barça were not easy. He had difficulties in his initial physical development, which led him to focus on improving other skills. He was not a starter in the infant or cadet categories, but his situation changed when he reached the youth team, where he was known as ‘Fermín the little one’.
He was the scorer of the goal that gave Barcelona the youth league title in the 2021-22 season. Then, he renewed for two more years and was promoted to Barça Atlètic.
