Dominican Women Seek Semifinals in W35 Tournament of Santo Domingo
SANTO DOMINGO.- The Dominican tennis players Anna María Fedotova and Ana Zamburek face a crucial challenge in the W35 Tournament, held at the Santo Domingo Country Club. Both athletes are seeking to secure their place in the semifinals in the doubles modality.
The tournament, which brings together players from 20 countries, promises exciting matches. Fedotova and Zamburek, along with their respective partners, will face strong opponents on the court.
Fedotova’s match against the Colombian Mariana Higuita is scheduled for this Thursday, no earlier than 12:30, against the tournament’s favorite duo, composed of the Italian Miriana Tona and the Bolivian Noelia Zeballos.
For their part, Zamburek and the Canadian Raphaelle Lacasse will face the pair formed by the Japanese Haruna Arakawa and the American Mary Lewis.
On Wednesday’s match, Fedotova and Higuita managed to advance to the quarterfinals after a close match against the Chinese duo Yichen Zhao and the Colombian María Torres, with scores of 6-4 and 7-5.
Zamburek and Lacasse also secured their place in the next phase, defeating the Dominican Joelle Fiallo Schad and the American Ashleigh Harvey with a double 6-2.
The W35 Tournament offers a prize pool of 30 thousand dollars and awards 35 points to the champion.
The tournament direction is in charge of Sergio Tobal, with Omar “Jimi” Cardona as the main referee, assisted by Francisco de los Santos.
The events organized by Fedotenis are supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Banco de Reservas, Civil Aviation Board (JAC), Ekatex, Creso, and Wilson.
Caribbean Cup at Parque del Este
This Thursday, at the National Tennis Center of Parque del Este, the doubles finals will be held, in addition to the quarterfinals and semifinals of singles.
