Fedom Announces U-12 Regional Qualifying Tournaments for the Robinson Canó Cup 2026
The Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom) has announced the start of the regional tournaments in the U-12 category, which will serve as qualifiers for the 2026 “Robinson Canó Cup” National Championship. This event will bring together the young talents of Dominican youth baseball.
The competitions will begin on Friday, April 17th and will run until May 24th, culminating at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center. In this stage, children between 11 and 12 years old, born in 2014 and 2015, will participate, as part of the federation’s official development calendar.Regional Tournaments Calendar
The action will begin in the South region, with La Descubierta as the venue for South 1, where Pedernales, Bahoruco, Barahona, and Independencia will compete. That same day, San Juan de la Maguana will host South 2-A with teams from Elías Piña and Azua, while San José de Ocoa will be the venue for South 2-B, made up of San Cristóbal, Peravia, and the host province. The winners of these last two zones will define the representative of South 2 on April 19.
From April 24 to 25, the Eastern region will have La Altagracia as its setting, receiving the provinces of La Romana, El Seibo, San Pedro de Macorís, Hato Mayor and Monte Plata.
In May, Santiago will host the Cibao Central tournament from the 1st to the 3rd with teams from La Vega, Monseñor Nouel, and Espaillat. Subsequently, from the 8th to the 10th, Samaná will be the venue for the Northeast tournament, with representations from San Francisco de Macorís, María Trinidad Sánchez, and Sánchez Ramírez.
The Northwest will be defined from May 15 to 17 in Dajabón, with the participation of Monte Cristi, Santiago Rodríguez, Valverde and Puerto Plata.
Finally, the regional tournaments will close from May 22 to 24 with the Gran Santo Domingo matchup between the National District and Santo Domingo province, at the Olympic Center.Importance of the Tournament
These tournaments will not only determine those classified for the Robinson Canó Cup, but will also allow Fedom to evaluate and update its talent database. This is crucial for the formation of the national team that will participate in the U-12 Pre-World Championship, scheduled for July in Mazatlán, Mexico.
In the last edition, Santo Domingo province was crowned champion of the contest.
