FEDOGIM Suspends Coach Julio Ángeles Following Sexual Harassment Complaint

Santo Domingo – The Dominican Gymnastics Federation (FEDOGIM) has announced the immediate suspension of coach Julio Ángeles from all his functions within the federation system, both nationally and internationally. This decision comes as a result of a complaint of alleged sexual harassment against him.

The federation took this measure after learning, through a journalistic report, of the complaint filed with the Prosecutor’s Office for Gender Violence in Santo Domingo Este. Ángeles, linked to the Olympic Gymnastics Academy (OGA), was accused of allegedly harassing a minor who was part of the sports center. FEDOGIM has also ordered the OGA academy to immediately suspend the coach from all activity and from the space where the athletes train, in any capacity, while the investigation is carried out.

“Failure to comply with this requirement will result in sanctions against Olympic Gymnastics Academy, including the withdrawal of its membership from the National District Gymnastics Association, and consequently, from FEDOGIM itself,” the organization warned.

The federation has reiterated that it will act firmly and responsibly against any conduct that threatens the integrity of the athletes. In addition, it stressed that any person responsible for acts considered illicit must answer personally to justice.

“We reaffirm that the physical, mental, and spiritual integrity of our athletes is an absolute priority for this Federation,” the statement concluded.

This statement adds to the decision announced by Olympic gymnast Yamilet Peña, director of the OGA academy, who confirmed Ángeles’ disassociation from the sports center and expressed her full willingness to collaborate with the authorities.
