Estrellas Orientales: Luxury Pitchers for Next Season

San Pedro de Macorís – Las Estrellas Orientales are presenting themselves with a pitching staff that promises to be one of the most solid in the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM), according to the statements of the experienced pitcher Esmil Rogers. Rogers, who joined the green team as a free agent in February and is already part of the reserve, anticipates a different season than the previous one, where several pitchers faced restrictions from their Major League organizations.

This time we will have several pitchers who will have no restrictions to work in the Dominican League. That will give us a lot of depth.

The Stars’ opening rotation will feature key figures such as Enny Romero, current Pitcher of the Year, and Luis Moreno, Rookie of the Year from last season. They are joined by Oscar de la Cruz, versatile as both a starter or reliever, and the imports Nate Antone and Sean Nolin. The bullpen is also shaping up strongly, with experienced arms like Neftalí Feliz, Román Méndez, and Jhan Maríñez, who have no summer commitments in MLB organizations, which increases the possibility that they will remain throughout the season. In addition, the imported Patrick Weigel returns, one of the most outstanding relievers of the previous edition. Esmil Rogers, at 40 years old, reinforced the Estrellas in the past Round Robin, after playing for the Toros del Este in the regular season, and decided to definitively join the team of his hometown.

It was a family decision, a family of star players. I consulted with my brothers, who also played here, including Edward Rogers, former captain of the club. We wanted to continue with that tradition.

In the 2024-2025 season, Rogers proved his worth: with the Bulls he recorded a 3-2 record and a 3.04 ERA in 10 starts, and with the Stars he shone in the Round Robin with a 1.32 ERA, the best on the team. With a reinforced rotation, a deep bullpen, and unrestricted pitchers, the Stars seek to excel in the upcoming season. Under the direction of Fernando Tatis, the organization trusts that pitching will be their main strength in the pursuit of the Dominican winter baseball championship.
