England, Ivory Coast and Senegal secure their place in the 2026 World Cup

The World Cup fever ignites! The national teams of England, Ivory Coast, and Senegal secured their place in the 2026 World Cup this Tuesday, bringing the number of qualified teams to 28 for the much-anticipated event to be held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. England leads the European representation, being the first team from the continent to secure its place after a resounding 0-5 victory over Latvia. The Old Continent will have sixteen teams in the final phase. Ivory Coast and Senegal join the list of the nine direct African qualifiers, along with Morocco, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Ghana, Cape Verde and South Africa. Both countries are preparing for their fourth World Cup.

Distribution by Confederations

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) still has an additional spot to be defined through the international repechage. In South America (Conmebol), Argentina, Brazil, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Colombia already have their ticket secured, while Bolivia will seek their opportunity in the repechage. New Zealand will represent the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) directly, and New Caledonia will seek their World Cup debut in the international play-off. Asia (AFC) already has Japan, Iran, Uzbekistan, South Korea, Jordan, Australia, Qatar and Saudi Arabia as qualified, in addition to an extra place for the repechage. Concacaf, for its part, has the three hosts, Canada, United States and Mexico, automatically classified, and will award three more direct places and two tickets for the repechage.
