SANTO DOMINGO, R.D. – The young Dominican prospect Elián Peña, at just 17 years old, continues to impress in the Mets organization. The shortstop, considered one of the most promising figures of the 2025 international class, has once again captured attention by hitting three home runs in a single game, demonstrating his exceptional talent.
This outstanding performance took place last Monday in the Dominican Summer League, marking the second time Peña has achieved this feat this season.
The $5 million bonus the Mets invested in his signing, second only to Japan’s Roki Sasaki in the international signing period, seems to be paying off. Peña has established himself as an impact player, joining a select group of young talents.
Elian Peña’s Achievements
- He is the third player since 2005 to record two three-home run games in the same season before turning 20, along with Travis Denker (2005) and Joey Gallo (2013).
- He is the only player to achieve two three-home run games in his first professional season since records have been kept (2005).
- He is only the sixth player aged 18 or under to achieve at least one three-HR game in that period.
On Monday, the Mets’ number 10 prospect displayed all his offensive potential. His first home run was to the opposite field, connecting on a fastball from right-handed pitcher Steven Cabrera (Angels). The next two were to right field, demonstrating his ability to hit the ball with power in different directions.
Peña finished the game with an outstanding performance of 5-4, driving in six runs and raising his season offensive line to .299/.423/.540.
Your progress in the DSL has been remarkable. After a difficult start to the season, Peña found his rhythm on June 14th and has since demonstrated consistent performance.
In August, his production has been impressive, with an average of .442/.529/.860.
Currently, Peña has nine home runs, tied for third place in the circuit. His OPS of .963 leads among all minor league players for the Mets. In addition, he has shown enviable discipline at the plate, with 35 walks versus 33 strikeouts.
