INGLEWOOD, California – Philadelphia 76ers rookie VJ Edgecombe shined in the Rising Stars Challenge, leading Team Vince to a one-point victory over Team Melo in the start of NBA All-Star Weekend. His outstanding performance earned him the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award of the event.

Decisive since Semifinals

The guard was not only key in the final, but also in the semi-finals he scored the last 10 points for his team, eliminating the team selected by Tracy McGrady. In that match, Edgecombe scored 17 of Team Vince’s 41 points.

I wanted to win. I hate to lose

The team led by Vince Carter also had contributions from Matas Buzelis and Derik Queen, but it was Edgecombe who made the difference in the decisive moments.

Inspiration from a Legend

The intensity demonstrated by the rookie was influenced by a previous meeting with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, a Hall of Fame member, who shared his experiences and reflections with the participants. Edgecombe described the talk as “a dream” and stated that listening to a legend of that caliber motivated him to compete with greater focus. In his debut season, the 19-year-old player has averaged 14.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists, standing out even on a team that features players like Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid.

Chris Paul Announces His Retirement

Veteran point guard Chris Paul announced his retirement from professional basketball this Friday, ending a 21-season career in the NBA. Known as the “Point God”, Paul, 40 years old, was a 12-time All-Star, 11-time All-NBA selection, nine-time member of defensive teams, and Rookie of the Year in 2006. In addition, he won two Olympic gold medals and was part of the NBA’s 75th Anniversary Team. In his social media, Paul wrote that he is stepping away from basketball after 21 years, and that he wants to dedicate more time to his family.

A Historic Race

Paul ranks second in NBA history in assists (12,552) and steals (2,728), and was the first player to reach at least 20,000 points and 10,000 assists. Throughout his career, he defended the jerseys of the New Orleans Hornets, Los Angeles Clippers, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder, Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, and San Antonio Spurs. Commissioner Adam Silver praised his legacy, highlighting both his impact on the court and his leadership off it, especially during his time as president of the Players Association. With his farewell, the NBA loses one of the most influential point guards of his generation, whose individual induction into the Hall of Fame seems only a matter of time.
