Eddy Mercedes, the First Pick of the San Francisco Giants in the LNB Draft

The shortstop Eddy Mercedes was the first pick of the San Francisco Giants in the 2026 Rookie Draft of the LNB Super League, an event that took place last night at the Hard Rock Cafe in the city. Known as “Chiquito Irving”, this point guard, originally from Villas Agrícolas and belonging to the Los Prados club in district basketball, was selected in the seventh position of the first round of the draft. Mercedes stands out for his excellent ball handling, court vision, and ability to score and attack the basket, making him one of the young point guards with the greatest projection in national basketball. With outstanding performances in the top basketball league of La Romana and in the National Development League, Mercedes arrives to reinforce the point guard position for the Gigantes de San Francisco, joining Edgar Tejada and Richard Ortega Jr., thus forming one of the most promising lineups in the LNB.

Additional Giants Selections

In the second selection, the Gigantes del Cibao acquired Giovanni Cordero-Novas, a 6’3″ guard recognized for his offensive ability and chosen Player of the Year after averaging 28.2 points, 12.9 rebounds, and 4.0 assists with Bunker Hill Community College in Division III. Finally, in the third and last selection, the team chose the vegan Miguel Ubaldo Gómez, a 24-year-old, 6’10” tall player with experience in the development league. The representation of the San Francisco Giants in the LNB rookie draft was led by General Manager Rafael Almánzar, accompanied by Operations Manager Aneudy Rivera, his assistant Jonathan Betances, and coach Víctor Peña. With the incorporation of these three players, the San Francisco Giants strengthen their squad for the next season of the super league, which is scheduled to start on April 14, with the participation of nine franchises.
