Aguilas Cibaeñas leads the LIDOM Re-Entry Draft with the selection of Cristhian Adames

The Águilas Cibaeñas, current leaders of the regular season, started the Re-entry Draft of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) by selecting Cristhian Adames, infielder from the Tigres del Licey, as their first pick. Los Toros del Este, for their part, focused their strategy on reinforcing their pitching staff, especially the bullpen, by choosing Jean Carlos Mejía, also from the Tigres del Licey, in the first round. The draft, held at noon, consisted of six rounds and brought together the four semifinalist teams that will compete in the round robin starting next Saturday. The tournament is dedicated to Juan Marichal. The Eagles bet on Adames’ experience and batting, while the Toros prioritized strengthening their bullpen. The Gigantes del Cibao chose catcher Francisco Mejía (Licey), and the Leones del Escogido closed the first round by selecting reliever Patrick Weigl (Estrellas Orientales). Each team had the opportunity to select six players, with a minimum of three native players.

Jesús Mejía, manager of the Toros del Este, commented that the process was clear and direct, focusing on a bullpen that they considered a weakness. Jeylon Pimentel, from the operations management of the Gigantes del Cibao, described their selection as “a balanced draft”, highlighting the impact of Francisco Mejía and the incorporation of Gustavo Núñez and Ismael Munguía, in addition to the reinforcement of their pitching staff. Carlos Peña, manager of the Leones del Escogido, described the process as “very dynamic”, highlighting the acquisition of pitchers Patrick Weigl, Radhamés Liz and Jefry Yan, along with offensive players Raimel Tapia, Jorge Mateo and Michael de la Cruz.
