Journalist José P. Monegro, president of the Organizing Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, announced the beginning of the final phase of organization of the sporting event. The news was announced this Tuesday, marking an important milestone in the preparation of the regional event. The meeting of heads of mission of the participating delegations is the starting point of this crucial stage. In this meeting, representatives from the 37 countries that will compete in Santo Domingo 2026, from July 24 to August 8 of that year, will meet.

“We will be starting the mission chiefs meeting here in the Dominican Republic, which marks the beginning of the final part of the organizational contact for the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026,” Monegro expressed.

During the meeting, key aspects for the development of the games will be addressed. These include logistics, transportation, accommodation, security, sports facilities, and protocol. The operation of the village where the delegations will be staying will also be presented. In addition, the procedures for the transfer of equipment, the handling of sports equipment, and the operational organization of each discipline will be detailed. The organizing committee announced that the pre-accreditation process for national and international press will open on March 31. The objective is to begin the selection of communicators who will cover the different competitions. Tony Mesa, technical sub-director of the games, detailed that Santo Domingo 2026 will feature 40 sports and 56 disciplines, totaling approximately 423 competitive events. A relevant fact is that 20 of these disciplines will serve as qualifiers for the Lima 2027 Pan American Games, which will raise the level of competition. Mesa also reported that the athlete classification process is advancing, with 43% of the quotas completed so far, out of a total of 6,723 projected athletes. Monegro highlighted that the sporting event aims to be the largest multi-sport event held in the country’s history, both in terms of the number of athletes and disciplines.

“We are preparing to make history with the Dominican people in the multinational sporting event with the largest number of athletes and sports ever held in the Dominican Republic,” he affirmed.
