Dominican Republic Imposes its Law in Managua and Secures its Advance to the 2027 Basketball World Cup

The Dominican Republic’s national basketball team demonstrated its superiority by defeating Nicaragua with a resounding score of 86-61. This triumph, obtained in the Second Qualifying Window, marks the Dominican team’s second consecutive victory on its path to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027. With this result, the Dominicans consolidate their position, raising their record to 3-1 and tying for the lead in Group A with the United States. The United States also secured its place in the next phase after defeating Mexico. The Dominican victory over Nicaragua took place at the Alexis Argüello Sports Center in Managua. Despite a promising start by Nicaragua, who led the first period 18-14, the Dominican Republic reacted strongly. The Dominican team dominated the second set 30-18, securing a 44-36 lead at halftime. In the second half, under the direction of Néstor García, the Dominican Republic maintained its pace. The Quisqueyans won the third period 23-13 and sealed the triumph with a final quarter of 19-12, widening the difference and securing a victory by 25 points.

Key Figures in the Dominican Victory

Joel Soriano led the Dominican offense with 17 points and eight rebounds, followed by Ángel Delgado with 14 units. Ángel Núñez also had an outstanding performance with 12 points, including four three-pointers. In addition, Anderson García contributed 12 points and seven rebounds, while Gelvis Solano and Richard Bautista each scored seven points. Luis Montero, in his debut in this window, added six units. For Nicaragua, Eden Ewing was the most outstanding player with 21 points and eight rebounds, followed by Jared Ruiz, who contributed 13.
