Dominicana Imposes its Law in Managua and Secures its Advancement to the 2027 Basketball World Cup
The Dominican Republic national basketball team demonstrated its superiority by defeating Nicaragua with a resounding score of 86-61. This triumph, obtained in the Second Qualifying Window, marks the team’s second consecutive victory on its path to the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027.
With this result, the Dominican combined raises its record to 3-1, consolidating itself at the top of Group A, tied with the United States. The United States also secured its place in the next phase after its victory over Mexico.
The match took place at the Alexis Argüello Sports Center in Managua, where the home team started with an advantage in the first quarter (18-14). However, the Dominican reaction was immediate, dominating the second quarter with a score of 30-18 and taking the lead with a 44-36 at halftime.
In the second half, the team led by Néstor García maintained control of the game. The Dominicans won the third quarter 23-13 and closed the last one with a 19-12, widening the difference and securing a 25-point victory.
Key Figures in the Dominican Victory
The Dominican offensive featured outstanding performances. Joel Soriano led with 17 points and eight rebounds, followed by Ángel Delgado with 14 points. Ángel Núñez shone with 12 points, including four three-pointers. Anderson García also contributed with 12 points and seven rebounds.

For Nicaragua, Eden Ewing was the most outstanding player with 21 points and eight rebounds.

The Third Qualifying Window will be held in July. The Dominican Republic will host the United States on Friday the 3rd and Nicaragua on Monday the 6th at the Virgilio Travieso Soto Sports Palace, in Santo Domingo.
In the qualifying process for the 2027 World Cup, 16 national teams from the American continent participate, competing for seven places in the international tournament.
