Luxury Reinforcements for the Dominican Selection in the 2026 World Baseball Classic
The Dominican Baseball Federation (FEDOM) announced this Thursday the incorporation of outstanding players to the roster of the Dominican Republic national team that will compete in the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Carlos Santana, Brayan Bello, Yainer Díaz, Seranthony Domínguez and Carlos Estévez have received authorization to represent the country in the tournament.
With the arrival of Brayan Bello, the starting rotation adds a valuable resource, joining Cristopher Sánchez and Sandy Alcántara, who had already been confirmed. Domínguez and Estévez will strengthen the bullpen, a crucial aspect in a tournament with pitching restrictions.
Seranthony Domínguez will make his debut in the World Baseball Classic, while Carlos Santana will participate for the third time, establishing himself as one of the most experienced players on the team. Santana was fundamental in the Dominican Republic’s undefeated championship in the 2013 edition.
Domínguez, who recently signed with the Chicago White Sox, is coming off a standout 2025 season, where he achieved an ERA of 3.16 in 62.2 innings, with 79 strikeouts and two saves, proving to be a reliable reliever.
Carlos Estévez, with extensive experience in the Major Leagues, will bring experience and solidity to the Dominican bullpen, thanks to his performance as a closer and setup man in high-pressure situations, essential characteristics in tournaments like the Classic.
Santana, who finished the 2025 season between the Cleveland Guardians and the Chicago Cubs, stood out defensively, being a finalist for the Gold Glove award. He is expected to provide leadership, defense, and depth at first base, backing up Vladimir Guerrero Jr., according to the decisions of manager Albert Pujols.
Yainer Díaz is called to be the starting catcher for the Dominican team, consolidating himself as the most consistent mask of the country in the last three seasons of the Major Leagues.
These players join already confirmed figures such as Fernando Tatis Jr., Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Oneil Cruz, Sandy Alcántara and Cristopher Sánchez, while the national team’s management continues to build a competitive roster for the tournament to be held in March.
