Valentin Paret-Peintre conquers Mont Ventoux in the Tour de France

French cyclist Valentin Paret-Peintre won the victory at the summit of Mont Ventoux during his debut in the Tour de France. He surpassed Irishman Ben Healy and Colombian Santiago Buitrago, on a day where Tadej Pogacar, from Slovenia, consolidated his lead in the general classification. This represents the first victory for France in this edition of the Tour and Paret-Peintre’s second triumph in a Grand Tour, after his success in the 2024 Giro d’Italia. Paret-Peintre was part of a large breakaway that gained a considerable advantage on Mont Ventoux. Spaniard Enric Mas led the race solo for much of the ascent, but was caught four kilometers from the finish, finishing in seventh position, 53 seconds behind the winner. Paret-Peintre beat Healy in an exciting final sprint, while Buitrago arrived four seconds later. Among the favorites, the Dane Jonas Vingegaard tried to distance himself with three attacks on the Ventoux ramps, but failed to separate from Tadej Pogacar. The latter, with a final attack, managed to get ahead of his main rival by two seconds, extending his lead in the general classification. German Florian Lipowitz, despite losing 1 minute and 10 seconds to the leader, maintained his third position in the general classification, with an advantage of 9 minutes and 5 seconds. The situation strengthened because the Briton Oscar Onley, his main competitor, conceded an additional 36 seconds, remaining 2 minutes and 1 second away from the podium. The Spaniard Carlos Rodríguez, who finished fifteenth, 3 minutes and 2 seconds behind the winner, dropped one position in the general classification, surpassed by Healy, and is now in tenth position, 20 minutes and 45 seconds behind the leader.
