Dominican Republic Debuts with Crushing Victory in the Pan American Softball Championship
Montería, Colombia. The Dominican Republic’s men’s national team began its participation in the XIII Pan American Men’s Softball Championship with a resounding 9-0 victory over Guatemala. The match took place this Saturday at the José Gabriel Amín Manzur stadium.
The performance of the Dominican pitchers was key to the triumph. Yan Carlos “El Pinto” González and Joni Javier Suriel combined their efforts to limit the Guatemalan offense to only one hit in five innings.
González, who secured the victory, pitched three impeccable innings, striking out seven batters and conceding one walk. Suriel relieved afterwards.
The Dominican offense demonstrated its power from the first inning, scoring two runs. They continued to add runs in the following innings: one in the second, two in the third, and four in the fourth, securing the victory by knockout.
The Dominicans connected 14 hits, while Guatemala could only connect one, courtesy of Gerardo Dacaret.
Gian Ferrari Véliz, pitcher from Guatemala, took the loss, allowing eight hits and five earned runs in 2.1 innings.

With this victory, the Dominican Republic adds its first three points in Group C, which also includes the United States and Mexico. The tournament is qualifying for international events, such as the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, the Pan American Games Lima 2027, and the Softball World Cup 2027.
