Shining Stars League at the “Amigos de Zúñiga 2025” International Maxibasketball Cup

The delegation of the Liga de las Estrellas, representing the Dominican Republic, won two championships in the “Amigos de Zúñiga 2025” International Maxibasketball Cup. The event, held in Medellin, Colombia, brought together 80 Maxibasketball teams from 14 countries.

The Dominican teams demonstrated their superiority in the +40 and +45 age categories, leaving an indelible mark on the Iván de Bedout Coliseum, venue of the competition in the Colombian city.

Raúl Peña (Koby), general manager of both Dominican teams, shared details about the delegation’s success. Carlos Martínez managed the +40 years team, while César Rosario (Papalo) led the +45 years category.

The Liga Antioqueña de Baloncesto (LAB) was in charge of organizing the “Amigos de Zúñiga 2025” International Maxibasketball Cup during the month of December.

In the +40 years category final, the League of Stars defeated Puerto Rico with a score of 78-71. Manuel Fortuna (Mané), Juan Pablo Montás, César Rosario (Papalo), and Stalin Fernández were key figures in the Dominican offense.

Mañé Fortuna was recognized as the Most Valuable Player of the +40 years category.

In the +45 years category, the League of the Stars defeated La Hermandad de Panama with a score of 68-62, despite the presence of the outstanding Panamanian player Jaime Lloreda.

This triumph marked the third championship of the Stars League in the “Amigos de Zúñiga” International Maxibasketball Cup.

Stalin Fernández, Alberto Ozuna (Cebollita), Edgar Lugo, Carlos Martínez, Roberto Carlos and Ricardo Monsac stood out for the Dominican team in the +45 years category.

Edgar Lugo, originally from La Vega, was named the Most Valuable Player of the +45 years category.
