Los Angeles Dodgers announce an initiative to support immigrant families. The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced a major donation of one million dollars to provide assistance to immigrant families affected by the recent immigration raids in Southern California.

What is happening in Los Angeles has resonated among thousands and thousands of people and we have heard the call for us to assume a leadership role on behalf of those affected.

Stan Kasten, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Dodgers
The announcement comes amid criticism directed at the team, historically supported by the Latino community, due to its apparent lack of support during the raids initiated on June 6.

These last few weeks have generated a wave of fear that has swept through all neighborhoods and has had a direct impact on our economy. My message to all Angelenos is clear: we will stand united during this time and we will not turn our backs.

Karen Bass, Mayor of Los Angeles
The economic donation, made in collaboration with the authorities of Los Angeles, comes a day after the Dodgers reported that they denied access to the stadium parking lot to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents. The Department of Homeland Security issued a statement disassociating itself from the situation, stating that the agents’ visit was not related to any immigration operation or control. The team was also embroiled in controversy last weekend when singer Vanessa Hernández, known as Nezza, performed “El Pendón Estrellado”, the Spanish version of the national anthem, before a game in front of more than 55,000 fans, although it was not scheduled.
