Astros de La Vega Defeat Fénix and Rise in the LND U22

The Astros de La Vega starred in a stellar encounter by defeating the Fénix de Santiago, who maintained an undefeated record, with a final score of 97-88. The match, corresponding to Division I of the National Development League (LND U22), took place in the Fernando Teruel sports center in La Vega. With this victory, the Vegans not only broke the Phoenix’s streak, but also secured first place in the North Circuit and the North B group. Their performance positions them with a 3-1 record, tying the Phoenix, who lead the North A group. The tournament is dedicated to Wellington Arnaud, executive director of the National Institute of Potable Water (INAPA). Farly Núñez led the Astros’ offense with 30 points and 14 rebounds. Wiliber Moronta contributed 23 points, while Olbi De la Cruz scored 16 and Francisco Comprés 15. For the Fénix, Rinelson Diloné stood out with 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Engel Gutiérrez contributed 15.

District Thunders Prevail in Overtime

The District Thunders achieved a narrow victory over the Villa Consuelo Swordsmen, with a score of 77-75, after overtime. The match was held at the sports complex of the Huellas del Siglo club, located in the Cristo Rey sector. Justin De la Cruz was the key figure for the Truenos, accumulating 20 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Guzmán contributed 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Adam Germán added 14 points and 15 captures. On the opposing team, Dío Marte scored 16 points, while Ángel Chalas and Hendry Martínez contributed 14 each. The standings show a four-way tie for second place between Truenos, Espadachines, Tornados de SFM and San Sebastián-Moca, all with a 2-2 record. Navegantes de Puerto Plata and CDP-Santiago are with a 1-3 record.

CDP and Navegantes Obtain Victories

The CDP teams of Santiago and Navegantes de Puerto Plata also achieved victories in their respective matches. CDP de Santiago managed to defeat San Sebastián with a score of 100-98, after overtime. Alexis Castro stood out with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 12 assists, and Daniel García contributed 14 points. The Navegantes de Puerto Plata defeated the Tornados de San Francisco with a score of 83-75. Elier De Jesús led the offense with 18 points, followed by Ernesto Vásquez with 16, Rikelvi Rivera with 12, and Feliz Payamps with 11. For the Tornados, Luis Vásquez scored 16 points, Andrius Herrera 12, Leovaldi Sena 11, and Junior Muñoz 10. The U22 National Development League is organized by the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal), under the presidency of Rafael Uribe, and has José -Maíta- Mercedes as National Commissioner.
