Djokovic Advances in US Open After Defeating Svajda
New York – Novak Djokovic, the renowned Serbian tennis player, continues his advance in the US Open. This Wednesday, he managed to secure his place in the third round after a match against the young American Zachary Svajda, whom he defeated in four sets: 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1. The match, full of intensity, lasted a total of 2 hours and 31 minutes.
World number 7 and holder of 24 Grand Slam titles, initially showed some doubts, losing the first set in a tie-break. He made 14 unforced errors against an opponent who demonstrated great agility and effectiveness from the baseline.
However, after losing the first set, Djokovic adjusted his strategy and leveraged his vast experience. He managed to equalize the score with an early break in the second set and, from that moment on, his confidence grew, dominating the rest of the match with authority.
Svajda, ranked 145th and 22 years old, surprised with 22 winners in the first two sets. However, in the third, he requested medical assistance due to physical discomfort, which affected his performance. Djokovic capitalized on this situation, obtaining five consecutive breaks that sealed his victory.
The veteran tennis player, four-time champion in New York, will face the winner of the match between the Argentinian Francisco Comesaña (n.54) and the British Cameron Norrie (n.35) in the next round.
Djokovic arrives at the US Open after his run in the Wimbledon and Roland Garros semifinals, where he was surpassed by the Italian Jannik Sinner. The Serbian tennis player seeks to add a new title in the last Grand Slam of the year, which is held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center until September 7.
