Djokovic Advances in US Open After Defeating Svajda

The Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic continues his path in the US Open, securing his place in the third round after defeating American Zachary Svajda. The match, which lasted 2 hours and 31 minutes, ended with scores of 6-7 (5), 6-3, 6-3 and 6-1.

Djokovic, currently number 7 in the world and holder of 24 Grand Slam titles, had a shaky start, losing the first set in a ‘tie break’. He committed 14 unforced errors against a Svajda who demonstrated great mobility and effectiveness.

After the first set, Djokovic readjusted his strategy, balancing the match with a break in the second set. From that moment on, he increased his confidence, dominating the rest of the match.

Svajda, ranked 145th and 22 years old, surprised with 22 winning shots in the first two sets. However, in the third set, he requested medical assistance for physical discomfort, which affected his performance. Djokovic capitalized on this situation with five consecutive breaks, sealing the victory.

In the next round, the 38-year-old veteran, and four-time champion in New York, will face the winner of the match between the Argentinian Francisco Comesaña and the British Cameron Norrie.

Djokovic arrives at the US Open after his participation in Wimbledon and Roland Garros, and seeks to add a new title in this last Grand Slam of the year, which is played until September 7 at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
