SAN FRANCISCO – The Arizona Diamondbacks continue their upward trend this season, solidifying their good form with a 6-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants at Oracle Park. This triumph represents their tenth win in the last 11 games.
Right-handed pitcher Merrill Kelly shined on the mound, adding his fourth consecutive quality start. Over seven innings, Kelly limited the Giants to just two runs, allowing four hits and giving up two walks.
In terms of offense, Ketel Marte, from the Dominican Republic, maintained his high performance with the bat, connecting four hits in five at-bats and driving in three runs. In addition, the second baseman extended his hitting streak to nine games, showing an impressive .568 average during that period. Arizona rallied from a 2-1 deficit, capitalizing on defensive errors by San Francisco to score three runs in the fifth inning, which proved decisive for the final outcome. With this victory, the Diamondbacks improved their record to 4-0 against the Giants this season. Meanwhile, in Arlington, the Houston Astros starred in a historic night by combining to throw the first no-hitter in Major League Baseball since September 2024, defeating the Texas Rangers 9-0 at Globe Life Field. Japanese Tatsuya Imai was key in this feat, pitching six innings without allowing any hits. Despite walking the first two batters, Imai recovered after a visit from pitching coach Josh Miller and dominated the Texas offense. Steven Okert pitched in the seventh inning, and Dominican Alimber Santa, in his Major League debut, closed out the game with two impeccable innings, securing the combined no-hitter, number 18 in Astros history. Houston’s offense also contributed, with Jeremy Peña scoring the first run after being hit and stealing second base, and Yordan Álvarez hitting his 16th home run of the season. Christian Walker continued his good offensive moment, connecting a three-run home run in the seventh inning, his fourth in the last three games and the number 15 of the year. The combined no-hitter was the Astros’ first since the 2022 World Series and the first in the regular season since the one achieved by Dominican Ronel Blanco against Toronto on April 1, 2024.
