LAKELAND, Florida. – The atmosphere at Joker Marchant Stadium is already breathing the excitement of the season, even though the Grapefruit League hasn’t started yet. The Detroit Tigers took advantage of Wednesday’s day to officially present Dominican left-handed pitcher Framber Valdez, an event that underlines the club’s ambitions for 2026. Baseball operations president Scott Harris and general manager Jeff Greenberg led the presentation at Club 34, accompanied by the pitcher’s family and agent. Attention was also focused on a group of teammates waiting to support their new colleague. Tarik Skubal, Casey Mize, Jack Flaherty, and Justin Verlander, fresh from their first formal practice, were present. Valdez, who signed for three years and US$115 million, appreciated this gesture, highlighting the leadership and unity of the team’s pitching staff.
The camaraderie among Detroit’s starting pitchers has strengthened over time. Since Skubal and Mize arrived in the Major Leagues, mutual support has been crucial for the team’s development. Flaherty joined this dynamic two seasons ago, and now Valdez and Verlander, who returns on a one-year contract, are added to a rotation that combines talent, experience, and leadership. Together, the five starters have accumulated All-Star Game appearances, World Series titles, Cy Young awards, and other individual recognitions, which supports the group’s potential. The challenge now is to establish themselves as one of the most feared rotations in the league. Receiver Jake Rogers, who played with Valdez in the minor leagues, highlighted the enthusiasm in the clubhouse. That they take the time to be here shows the kind of group they are. I hope to contribute and grow with them. It’s a privilege to be a part of this.

Manager A.J. Hinch played an important role in the Dominican’s arrival. The pilot traveled to Florida to meet personally with Valdez and explain the sports project and the team’s competitive culture. This approach was key in the pitcher’s decision. Although several members of the pitching staff could become free agents at the end of the season, the organization sees a unique opportunity. If the chemistry and performance combine, Detroit could have a memorable season. The possibilities are endless. We are excited about what we can build.
