Detroit Tigers and DCNB Donate Supplies to School in La Zurza

The National Baseball Commissioner’s Office (DCNB), in collaboration with the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball, carried out a significant donation of sports equipment to the Profesora Aida Cartagena Portalatín School, located in the La Zurza sector. More than 100 students from the school benefited from the delivery, which included bats, baseballs, catcher’s equipment, basketballs, and other sports items. These resources are intended to strengthen sports practice within the educational institution. During the event, Major League players Framber Valdez, Wenceel Pérez, and Thayron Liranzo shared with the students, motivating them to combine sports with education.

School is very important, education is the main thing in your life before anything else. We studied first and then became professionals. So focus on your studies and be good young people.

The owner of the Detroit Tigers, Christopher Ilitch, and other team executives were also present at the activity. In representation of the national baseball commissioner, Diógenes De la Cruz, head of the Technical Directorate of the DCNB, was present, who highlighted the importance of these initiatives for the development of Dominican children.

For the Directorate of the National Baseball Commissioner, it is an honor to be here with the Detroit organization, inspiring these children so they can fulfill their dreams. The perfect combination is to study and practice baseball, because if they don’t make it to the Major Leagues tomorrow, they can be excellent professionals in any area.

Pérez and Liranzo also urged students to respect their parents and teachers. The school principal, José Luis García, expressed his gratitude to the DCNB and the Detroit Tigers for their support. This donation is part of the community activities carried out during the Detroit Tigers’ visit to the country, demonstrating organized baseball’s commitment to social and educational development in the Dominican Republic.
