Epic Error: Barcelona Fan Travels 540 km to the Wrong Stadium

A FC Barcelona fan starred in a memorable blunder that will be etched in the memory of football fans. On Tuesday, this fan bought a ticket for the Newcastle United-Barcelona Champions League match, but a navigation error led him to an unexpected adventure. The fan, after traveling more than 500 kilometers, showed up at St. James’ Park… but not at Newcastle’s stadium, but at Exeter City’s, a lower-league club. Upon learning of the situation, the club reacted with hospitality. To mitigate the fan’s disappointment, they offered him a ticket to watch the Exeter City versus Lincoln City match, a League One encounter.

“One of our volunteers came to the offices and told us that a man had appeared to see Barcelona. From what we understood, he came from London. I think he put ‘St. James’ Park’ in Google Maps and followed the directions to the wrong stadium.”

Adam Spencer, Exeter City ticket officer
The distance between both stadiums is considerable: 540 kilometers separate Newcastle’s St. James’ Park and Exeter City’s. It is likely that the fan, when looking for the address, has followed incorrect directions. Exeter City’s ticket officer, Adam Spencer, commented that the fan is welcome to return whenever they wish.
