Abinader Ensures Preservation of the “Teo” Cruz Boxing Coliseum

Santo Domingo – The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, has guaranteed the permanence of the Carlos “Teo” Cruz boxing coliseum. The sports facility, a symbol of Dominican sports, will not be affected by the works of the new Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium in Ensanche La Fe. The president’s statement came during a telephone conversation with the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz. The dialogue took place after an equipment delivery event to the Boxing and Handball associations of the Santo Domingo province.

Start Sports Support Program

Minister Kelvin Cruz led the start of a sports equipment donation program. The first benefited associations were Handball and Boxing from the province of Santo Domingo. José Carlos Agramonte Duval and Julio Recio, presidents of the Handball and Boxing associations respectively, expressed their gratitude for the donation, highlighting its positive impact on the development of these disciplines and on the athletes of the province. Cruz emphasized that this support initiative will extend to other sports disciplines at the national level. The minister recalled the achievements of handball and the historic contribution of Dominican boxing in multi-sport events such as the Central American and Caribbean Games, Pan American Games, and Olympic Games. In the activity were present the Vice Minister of Sports, Franklin de la Mota; congresswoman Olfanny Méndez; Edward Caraballo, director of Miderec in the province of Santo Domingo; Augusto Martínez; William Cabral; Félix Díaz, Olympic boxing champion at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games; and Tomás Antonio Cruz.
