RD Ready for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, assured that the Dominican Republic will have all sports facilities completely ready for the inauguration of the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. According to Cruz, the country is working with an ambitious schedule and meticulous planning that avoids last-minute improvisations. During an evaluation at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, the minister explained that this process requires discipline and time. Although some areas may seem disorganized due to the active execution of the works, the essential thing is that the work is being carried out in a very focused manner.

We are not magicians.

The minister responded to the criticisms about the appearance of some areas of the Olympic Center, explaining that the works usually look more “disheveled” in the stage of greatest progress. Cruz mentioned that the country is making a significant difference compared to international experiences. He cited the case of Europe, where the construction of sports facilities is often completed even a day before the inauguration of the events. The minister highlighted the implementation of volunteering as a key strategy to ensure the maintenance of the facilities before, during, and after the Games. This mechanism seeks collaboration between the public and private sectors.

Volunteering brings together the best of the best from the private and public sectors to coordinate efforts and ensure maintenance.

As an example, he invited to observe the state of the Félix Sánchez stadium, which is maintained in perfect condition despite the realization of numerous massive events. Cruz reiterated the country’s commitment to have the works ready before the Games, a significant achievement for the nation.

We are ensuring that the works will be ready before the Games. Just with that promise is something to celebrate.
