RD Ready for the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games

The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, assured that the Dominican Republic will have all sports facilities completely ready for the inauguration of the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. Cruz emphasized that the country is working with an efficient schedule and planning that prevents last-minute setbacks. During an evaluation at the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center, the minister explained that this process requires discipline and time. Although some areas may seem disordered due to construction activity, the essential thing is that the work is being carried out in a “very focused” manner.

The minister responded to the criticism about the visual aspect of some areas of the Olympic Center, pointing out that the works usually show more activity during the stages of greater progress. Cruz highlighted that the country is making a significant difference compared to international experiences. He mentioned examples from Europe, where works are completed even a day before the inauguration of sporting events. The minister emphasized that the country already has a firm commitment: the works will be ready before the Games, which represents an achievement for the nation. Regarding the maintenance of the facilities, the minister highlighted the importance of volunteering as a sustainability strategy. He described volunteering as a collaboration mechanism between the public and private sectors to ensure maintenance before, during, and after the games. As an example, he invited to observe the state of the Félix Sánchez stadium, which is maintained in perfect condition despite the realization of massive events.
