Coral Caamaño, new national artistic gymnastics champion
Young gymnast Coral Victoria Caamaño Mateo, at just 12 years old, won the title of national champion in women’s artistic gymnastics at level 6. The achievement was realized during the National Championship Stars of the Future, an event organized by the Dominican Gymnastics Federation (FEDOGIM).
Caamaño demonstrated her skill by obtaining five gold medals, showcasing her mastery in each apparatus. Her scores were outstanding: 9.575 on floor, 9.700 on vault, 9.500 on uneven bars, and 9.325 on beam. These results solidify her as a promising figure in Dominican gymnastics, representing the National District.
Coral’s success is a reflection of her discipline, talent, and dedication, as well as the work of her coaches Xavier Veloz and Marian Parra from the OD Gymnastics Academy Club, who have significantly contributed to her training.
This championship, held annually, brings together the best athletes from each province, who previously qualify in their respective regions. Coral Caamaño was part of the team from the National District after her participation in the Distrital Cup, organized by the Gymnastics Association of the National District (AGIDINA) in November.
The competition, characterized by its high competitive level, reaffirms the commitment to continue promoting the development and strengthening of gymnastics in the country.
Coral Caamaño began her career in artistic gymnastics at the age of 3 and has achieved important accomplishments in national and international competitions, such as Estrellas Gimnásticas in Costa Rica, the International Cup of the Antioquia Gymnastics League in Medellín, the Santo Domingo Gymnastics Classic, the Yamilet Peña Cup and the ODGYM Cup, among others.
