VENTAQUEMADA, COLOMBIA – The Colombian cycling world is in mourning following the death of Cristian Camilo Muñoz, an athlete who left an indelible mark on the hearts of his country. His passing, which occurred after an accident in European territory, has generated deep shock and a heartfelt tribute in his homeland.

A Massive Farewell

A massive caravan accompanied the return of Muñoz to Ventaquemada, the municipality where he was born and where he began his sporting career. The coffin of the cyclist, 30 years old, was transported in a funeral procession led by firefighters and followed by a long line of vehicles and cyclists.Throughout the journey, the region’s inhabitants took to the streets, displaying flags and farewell messages, in an emotional display of affection towards someone who was a reference in local cycling. The community came together to honor the memory of Muñoz, recognizing his dedication and achievements.Muñoz’s body was moved to the City Council, where a catafalque was set up so that family, friends, and community members could say goodbye before the scheduled funeral honors.

A Remembered Champion

Cristian Camilo Muñoz lost his life on April 24 in Oviedo. The cyclist was transferred from France after suffering a fall during the Tour du Jura. According to his team, Nu Colombia, medical complications derived from an infection worsened his health condition.Muñoz, born in 1996, joined the team in 2024, leaving a legacy of successes in the national arena. He stood out for his stage victories and for obtaining the mountain title in the Clásico RCN.The tribute to Cristian Camilo Muñoz will continue with a vigil and a mass, in a final farewell marked by the respect and admiration of an entire country.
