SANTO DOMINGO.
The Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) will commemorate the 15th anniversary of the death of engineer Roque Napoleón Muñoz (Polón), an emblematic figure of Dominican sports and former president of the institution.
The religious ceremony, a mass, will take place this Thursday, January 15th at 6:00 PM in the San Antonio María Claret parish, located in the Naco extension.
The participation of sports figures is expected, including leaders, coaches, athletes, family members and close friends of Polón Muñoz, who left an indelible mark on the sports development of the country, who passed away on January 15, 2011.
The COD, in collaboration with the Muñoz Peña family, has extended a formal invitation to the members of the Executive Committee, national sports federations, associations, clubs, leagues and sports unions, as well as to the entire sports community in general.
The objective is to pay tribute to someone who also served as a member of the International Olympic Committee and the Executive Committee of the Pan American Sports Organization (PASO) and the Central American and Caribbean Sports Organization (CACSO).
Roque Napoleón Muñoz was recognized for his outstanding career by being inducted into the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame in 1965, in the category of promoter.
His legacy includes his hard work for the benefit of sports, art, culture, and school physical education. He was a key promoter in the creation, by law, of the National Institute of School Physical Education (INEFI).
Significant attendance is anticipated from family, friends, and members of the San Antonio María Claret parish, the religious community to which the renowned Olympic leader belonged.
