Paris – Coco Gauff, at just 21 years old, has reached the top in Paris by winning her first Roland Garros, marking her second Grand Slam title. The American tennis player defeated the world number one, Aryna Sabalenka, with a score of 6-7(5), 6-2 and 6-4, after an intense match lasting 2 hours and 38 minutes.

After reaching her first final in Paris at the age of 18, Gauff triumphs on the court where she has achieved her greatest successes. This victory adds the Suzanne Lenglen Cup to her US Open title won in 2022, after defeating Sabalenka in the final.

Gauff achieved revenge after her defeat in the recent Madrid final against Sabalenka, adding her sixth victory in eleven direct encounters.

A New Era at Roland Garros

The young player, who reached the finals of Madrid and Rome this year, becomes the first American to win Roland Garros since Serena Williams achieved it in 2015. Furthermore, she is the youngest to achieve it since 2002.

With this first Roland Garros, Gauff is heading towards a legendary trajectory, demonstrating her capacity for sacrifice and determination.

In the final, Gauff came back from a lost first set for the second time in a row, showing her resilience. The Florida tennis player celebrated her victory with a shout of joy after securing the final point on the Philippe Chatrier court.

Sabalenka, for her part, was on the verge of her fourth Grand Slam, suffering her worst match of the tournament, with a total of 70 unforced errors that cost her the victory. Sabalenka started the match strongly, but Gauff adapted to the wind and began to dominate the game, while Sabalenka showed signs of frustration.

The match remained even, with multiple service breaks, reaching a critical point in the ninth game, where Sabalenka squandered several set opportunities.

In the tie-break, Gauff took the lead, but Sabalenka stayed in the fight, winning the first set after an hour and 17 minutes of play. Gauff, with her morale intact, dominated the second set and tied the match. Sabalenka, unable to regain her best game, conceded a break in the fourth game of the third set, which, although she recovered in the sixth, she lost again in the following one.
