Key Figures Behind the Scenes: Clubhouse’s Leaders Reveal Their Importance
In the vibrant scenario of the Showdown RD vs. Puerto Rico, where attention is focused on the star players, there are essential figures whose work ensures the smooth functioning of the teams. Alofoke Deportes had the opportunity to speak exclusively with Carlos Marte (Puerto Rico) and Amable Lugo (Dominican Republic), in charge of the clubhouse, who revealed the details of their work. The function of these professionals goes beyond the visible, ensuring that the players have everything they need to perform at their best. “Our function is fundamental because we are the ones who organize everything within the closeout,” explained Carlos Marte. “Food, luggage, uniform, belongings… everything must be accessible to avoid any inconvenience. They come to play ball, we take care of the rest.”Amable Lugo, with experience in the Mets’ minor leagues, shared how he came to hold this position. “It was thanks to a connection of my wife. A client of hers was married to the minor league clubhouse director, and that’s how the opportunity arose,” he recalled. Lugo highlighted the demanding logistics in the minor leagues, due to the large number of players and teams involved. Discipline is key in his work. “Everything works simply, but it requires a lot of discipline. If training starts at 12, we are there two hours earlier. When the guys arrive, everything must be ready,” Lugo pointed out. Regarding nutrition, both agreed on the strict standards in both the Major Leagues and the minors. “The first thing is to offer good, healthy food, with little fat. That is key to the player’s performance,” Lugo detailed. In addition, they must ensure that all equipment and personal belongings are complete. Both Marte and Lugo emphasized that their work, although often unnoticed, is crucial for the players to be able to fully concentrate on their performance on the field.“Our function is fundamental because we are the ones who organize everything within the closeout. Food, luggage, uniform, belongings… everything must be accessible to avoid any inconvenience. They come to play ball, we take care of the rest.”
