Claro Half Marathon: A Historic Milestone in the Dominican Republic
Santo Domingo – The Claro Half Marathon reached a new record in the Dominican Republic by gathering 6,200 participants and selling out its registrations a month before the event. This thirtieth edition, consolidated as the country’s largest race, attracted runners from more than 35 nationalities. The race, designed for the whole family, offered routes of 5, 10, and 21 kilometers along the iconic Malecón of Santo Domingo, promoting health, well-being, and integration. From 5-year-olds to 89-year-old runners, the Claro Half Marathon demonstrated its inclusive and intergenerational character. 257 participants were under 18 years old, 49 runners were over 70, and 15 athletes were in wheelchairs. Female and male participation was almost balanced, with 51% and 49% respectively, showing the growing interest in an active lifestyle. The largest age group was 18 to 29 years old, with 1,959 registered (32%), followed by those aged 30 to 39 years old, with 1,824 participants (30%).The presence of runners from various nationalities, including Venezuelans, Colombians, Mexicans, Spaniards, French, Italians, Dutch, Austrians, Americans, Canadians, Chinese, Indians, Japanese, and Kenyans, highlights the international scope and quality of the organization.With this emblematic event, which inspires and continues to position itself as a benchmark within the national sports calendar, we contribute to the development of sports in the Dominican Republic and to the promotion of values associated with well-being, discipline and family integration.
