Cibao FC and Pantoja compete for a place in the LDF final
This Sunday, Cibao FC and Club Atlético Pantoja will face each other in the second leg of the semifinals of the Dominican Republic Football League. The match, which will be played at 6:00 in the afternoon at the stadium of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, will define the finalist who will fight for the title in the tournament dedicated to Dr. José Rafael Abinader.
The winner of this series will face the winner of the match between Salcedo FC and Delfines del Este in the final, whose match will be played on Saturday.
Cibao FC arrives at the match with a slight advantage, after winning 0-1 in the first leg, played at Pantoja’s home.
The team led by Junior Scheldeur has managed to defeat Pantoja in their last two visits to the Panamericano stadium, a venue where Pantoja used to be unbeatable.
Cibao FC will advance to the final with a win or a draw. If Pantoja wins by one goal, the series will be decided in extra time and, if the tie persists, in penalties.
Cibao FC seeks its eighth final in the LDF, while Pantoja goes for its fifth.
In the other semifinal, Delfines del Este seeks its second final, while Salcedo FC, debuting in this instance, aims to reach the final for the first time.
In Cibao FC’s goal, Miguel Lloyd and Edwin “Gato” Frías will be, while Pantoja will have Alessandro Baroni.
Rivaldo Correa, with 11 goals this season and 32 in total with Cibao FC, is the top scorer for the orange team. Ángel Pérez follows with 10 goals. Edwarlyn Reyes, with six goals, will be out due to accumulation of yellow cards.
Julio César Murillo, Wilman Modesta, and Cesarín Ortiz each scored four goals. Javier Roces, Walter Acuña, Yunior Peralta, Julián Gómez, and Leonardo Villalba have two, while Jean Carlos López, Gabriel Peguero, Gonzalo Alarcón, Elián López, Omar De la Cruz, and Kleimar Mosquera have each scored one.
By Pantoja, Luka Bertrand leads the offense with 14 goals, followed by Carlos Sarante, with eight, and Luis Espinal, with six. Alexander Vidal and Gerard Lavergne add four goals each; Yordy Álvarez and Yeremy Báez have three; Edison Guerrero registers two, and Alejandro Rodríguez has one.
