NORTH PORT, Florida – Left-handed pitcher Chris Sale has reached an agreement with the Atlanta Braves to extend his contract for one year, worth $27 million. This agreement also includes a club option for $30 million for the 2028 season.
The 2024 National League Cy Young Award winner has expressed his desire to finish his career in Atlanta, a team he joined after a difficult period marked by injuries. The team’s management has publicly shown its interest in keeping the veteran left-hander in the franchise for as long as possible.
Sale, who will turn 37 shortly after Opening Day, is preparing to make his second consecutive start at the beginning of the season with the Braves. In the last two campaigns, he has maintained an ERA of 2.46 in 50 appearances, 49 of them as a starter, which has consolidated him as a fundamental piece in the rotation.
His recent performance has strengthened his Hall of Fame credentials, and his leadership has been highly valued within the clubhouse. Management, led by President of Baseball Operations Alex Anthopoulos, has highlighted his impact both on the field and his positive influence on the team.
With this agreement, Atlanta secures the continuity of one of the most important pitchers in its pitching staff, betting on his experience and competitiveness to remain a contender in the National League.
