NORTH PORT, Florida – Left-handed pitcher Chris Sale has reached an agreement to extend his contract with the Atlanta Braves for one year and $27 million. The deal includes a club option for $30 million for the 2028 season.

The 2024 National League Cy Young Award winner has expressed his desire to finish his career in Atlanta, a team he joined after a challenging period marked by injuries. The team’s management has publicly shown its intention to keep the veteran left-hander in the franchise for as long as possible.

Sale, who will turn 37 shortly after Opening Day, is projected to make his second consecutive opening start with the Braves. In the last two seasons, he has accumulated an ERA of 2.46 in 50 appearances, 49 as a starter, which has established him as a key piece in the rotation.

His recent performance has strengthened his Hall of Fame credentials, and his leadership has been highly valued within the clubhouse. Management, led by President of Baseball Operations Alex Anthopoulos, has highlighted both his impact on the field and his positive influence on the team.

With this agreement, Atlanta ensures the continuity of one of the most important arms of its pitching staff, betting on its experience and competitiveness to remain a contender in the National League.
