Calero de Villa Duarte Crowned Champion in the Women’s Superior Basketball Tournament
In an exciting final, Club Calero de Villa Duarte won the title of the First Women’s Basketball Superior Tournament of Santo Domingo Province, defeating Los Mina with an overall score of 2-0. The championship, which featured the Banreservas Cup at stake, culminated with an outstanding performance by Gloribel Rodríguez, who was key to her team’s victory. The decisive match, held on the court of Villa Duarte, saw Calero prevail with a score of 75-68, sealing the series without giving their opponents any opportunities. Rodríguez, once again, became the offensive figure of the match, scoring 25 points, added to the 39 he had already achieved in the first match. This performance earned him recognition as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final, with an average of 32 points per game. The match began with Los Mina taking the lead, dominating the first half with a score of 34-33, thanks to the efforts of Fátima Marte and Vanessa Batista. However, Calero adjusted their defensive strategy and accelerated the pace in the second half, managing to overcome their rivals and secure the championship. By Los Mina, Fátima Marte led the offense with 25 points, while Vanessa Batista contributed 17. At the end of the game, Gloribel Rodríguez received the Most Valuable Player trophy from Patricia Núñez, president of the Organizing Committee, and William Cabral, president of the Santo Domingo Province Basketball Association (ABASADO).
