Franco Colapinto replaces Jack Doohan at Alpine

Argentine driver Franco Colapinto will take the place of Jack Doohan in the Alpine Formula One team, starting from the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix in Italy, which will take place from the 16th to the 18th of this month at the Imola circuit.

Colapinto will participate in the next five Grand Prix with Alpine: Italy, Monaco, Spain, Canada and Austria. The team had him as a substitute driver since the beginning of this season.

The team has justified the change of Doohan for Colapinto due to technical issues, keeping Doohan as a reserve.

Colapinto’s participation with the French team marks his return to Formula One, after his debut last season with Williams, where he replaced the American Logan Sargeant.

With Williams, Colapinto competed in nine races and scored five points, achieving eighth place in Azerbaijan and tenth in Austin (United States).

Alpine has explained that the decision to replace Doohan with Colapinto is a tactical move, as the Australian driver has not managed to score points in the first six races of this year.

As part of an ongoing evaluation of its driver lineup, the team has made the decision to rotate one of its race seats for the next five rounds of the 2025 FIA Formula One World Championship

Doohan, 22, was promoted to the main team last summer to replace Frenchman Esteban Ocon.

The Australian driver has not matched the performance of his teammate, the French driver Pierre Gasly, who has accumulated seven points.

Despite the substitution, Alpine highlights that Doohan “remains an integral part of the team and will be the first option for the reserve driver during this period.”

The incorporation of Colapinto comes shortly after the resignation of team director Oliver Oakes, whose position has been taken over by Flavio Briatore.

Colapinto’s Reactions

Argentine driver Franco Colapinto celebrated the news of his joining Alpine with messages on social media. In them, he anticipated: “We’re back. Let’s go all out.”

The pilot, a native of Pilar, Buenos Aires province, expressed his joy on Instagram and X.

“Happy! We are back. Let’s go all out,” he wrote.

In another post, he thanked the French team for their trust.
